Good evening, SENIOR Parents and Stakeholders,
I wanted to touch base this evening with a few quick notes...
**SENIOR PICTURES: Sitting Options
Senior Pictures have gone really well the first few days and will continue throughout this week. The photography company reached out this weekend to ask that we remind our parents of the choices and prices in sitting options. Most students were prepared with their choice and payment, but some have not been. I apologize for not including this in the original email but have attached the flyer that you should have received with your child's appointment postcard. If you have any questions (or if your child still needs an appointment time), please don't hesitate to reach out. The original email from me about Senior Pictures can be found here: https://hchs.henryk12.
**DATES for SENIOR YEAR
We had our first Senior Meeting on Friday! This year will be the fastest one of your child's high school years, and we are here to help navigate. Below are some dates to keep in mind. This list is not all-inclusive of the busy year, but it will get you going with some milestones to add to your calendars...
--Now Open: TN Promise applications (We'll be getting more information out to students and you soon, so don't stress to do this immediately.)
--Now and Throughout the Year...Apply to colleges (notes below)
>>Each student is allowed two college visits this year...Required paperwork that must be completed prior to the visit can be found in the counseling office or on our school website.
>>Transcript request forms can be picked up in the counseling office, but these should not be requested until after the student has officially applied.
>>Students needing recommendation letters from teachers/administrators should complete the Recommendation packet (found in the counseling office or on our website) and provide it to the staff member at least two weeks in advance.
--September 11 (evening): College & Career Fair (highly recommended to attend; open to all grade levels)
--Scheduled to open October 1: FAFSA (opening date subject to change by the federal government; more information to come from us closer to time)
--November 4: Senior ACT Retake Day (during the school day)
--TBD: TN Promise required meeting (likely in December, from preliminary information from the state)
--May 2: Senior Prom
--May 8: Senior Banquet
--May 22: HCHS CLASS OF 2026 GRADUATION! (7:30 pm at Patriot Stadium)
IMPORTANCE OF ATTENDANCE...
Senior Year will go quickly, and it's important students are in attendance. As a note, students with over 5 unexcused absences will not be eligible to attend Prom or Banquet. Students with over 10 unexcused absences will not be eligible to walk the line at Graduation. We encourage students to follow StudentVue to keep track of their attendance, grades, and more; Parents can do this in ParentVue. Note that attendance for students age 18 and over looks different in the app, but these absences are still categorized as excused or unexcused. If help is needed with either of these apps during the year, please reach out to our office and our office staff will be glad to assist.
COLLEGE, CAREER, & MILITARY PLANNING...
HCHS is blessed to have Mr. John Norwood working with our students as our College, Career, and Military Access Counselor. Mr. Norwood spends part of his days in the classroom teaching social studies and the other part working with students and families to explore post-secondary options. Mr. Norwood will host a parent information session in late fall (date TBD), but please reach out to him at any time. Mr. Norwood can be reached at norwoodj@henryk12.net. He's here to help!
We hope your student had a great first week of senior year...It's going to be a fantastic one!
Go Big Red!
