School News

HCHS Parents and Stakeholders,

We hope your child enjoyed Fall Break! We have returned to a busy season of the year, so I wanted to get some information to you regarding several upcoming happenings.

Report Cards:

Report Cards for Quarter 1 have been given to students today! Please take time to review your child's grades, celebrate successes, and make plans for any needs. Please remember that Patriot XL is available before school (beginning at 7am) and after school (until 5:00 pm) for homework help, test make-up, and a quiet study area.

Dual Enrollment grades:

If your child is enrolled in a Dual Enrollment Dyersburg State Community College class, the best way for you to know their current progress is to ask your child to show you their grade through the DSCC portal called MyDSCC.

Senior

Parents

! We hope you have plans to join us this Thursday night from 6-7 pm in the Theater for our annual Senior

Parent

Meeting. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Next Tuesday, October 29th, is a BIG DAY on campus! Please help make sure your child is here and on time. The following will happen...

MORNING:

Seniors: ACT

Seniors will be taking their last state ACT, a real ACT. Senior College and Career classes have been preparing for this day since school began this year, and we are excited about the ACT Boot Camps that are being held this week. We are expecting to have additions to our 30+ Club and 21+ Walls, growth awards, and earned Honors Diplomas! We are excited to see how our students perform!

Juniors: ASVAB

Juniors will be taking the ASVAB. If you're like me, you might think of the ASVAB as a military exam. However, it is so much more! First off, the ASVAB is a great Career Exploration tool. It gives information which will pair students' interests with their abilities and give them career ideas. Often during our interpretation session, I'll hear of careers I don't even know about! Additionally, the ASVAB can help a student achieve Ready Graduate status. A score of 31 or higher on the ASVAB coupled with 2 EPSO classes will ensure a student can graduate as a Tennessee Ready Graduate.

Sophomores: Reality Store + TCAT Tour + Industry Tour

Sophomores will work through several rotations on Tuesday morning. Though not necessarily in this order, sophomores will...

--Participate in Reality Store. During this time, students will be assigned a family scenario and then role play that person, making decisions on housing, transportation, food, clothing, and other purchases. Reality Store is a great eye-opening experience!

--Participate in a TCAT Tour. This will allow students to know the programs available at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, as they will have the opportunity to select TCAT courses beginning their junior year.

--Participate in an Industry Tour. Students will tour either PML, Dana, or Henry County Hardwoods. Each place will showcase a variety of career opportunities available right here in Henry County, from line work, office work, human resources, accounting, and more.

NOTE: To attend the TCAT and Industry Tour, students must have a returned permission slip. These went out this week. Due to the busyness of that day, parent calls will not be made or accepted on Tuesday morning to give permission.

NOTE: To go on the Industry Tour field trip, a student must have on closed-toed and closed-heeled shoes and a shirt with sleeves due to safety requirements of the places they will visit. If a student does not come with these dress requirements, they will remain at HCHS during their group's Industry Tour.

AFTERNOON FOR ALL on 10/29:

Our Student Ambassadors have planned a fun afternoon for our students. There will be choices for students between our annual Powder Puff challenge and a few indoor options. It's sure to be a fun afternoon!

Parents...We need your help! Attendance and Check-Outs on 10/29:

**Tuesday is a full day of school. It is a very important day, and we need all students here.

**All students are expected to be on campus all day, including students who typically have off-campus classes or Work Based Learning. (One exception: Students who have 4th block WBL or TCAT will be allowed to attend, but not until we move to 4th block, which may be a few minutes earlier than normal.)

**Please be aware that we will not interrupt testing to check out a student.

**Please only check out a student in the afternoon for reasons that are necessary, such as a doctor's appointment. If your student asks to be checked out early for other reasons, please have them stay at school. Thank you for your help in this.

As always, please let us know of any questions or concerns.
